In 2015, we launched our first self-management programme in New Zealand and called it BetaMe. Back then, BetaMe was a self-management programme for people diagnosed with prediabetes to change their lifestyle and adopt healthy habits. We were delighted with the results with over 70% of patients no longer in the pre-diabetic range after just 16 weeks.

We called the pre-diabetes programme ‘BetaMe’, because it is the beta cells in the pancreas that fail to produce enough insulin that results in diabetes.

Our vision at Melon has always been to support a range of conditions not just pre-diabetes. We also understand that many people today are living with multiple conditions that they need to manage daily to stay healthy.

Because of this, we expanded BetaMe to help people with other long term conditions, including type-2 diabetes, cardiovascular disease, osteoarthritis and mild to moderate mental health issues.

With the addition of these programmes and our plans to expand in the future, we realised that BetaMe has outgrown its original name. We decided 2018 is the year to change the name to reflect who we are and where we are going.

Starting in March 2018, BetaMe is Melon.

We’ve listened to our users feedback and have some exciting improvements and developments planned for 2018 to help us scale and help people around the world be the best versions of themselves.

To all our BetaMe users out there — your mobile BetaMe app will change to Melon automatically with an update. You don’t have to do anything as long as auto-updating is turned on for your phone. Your programme, coach, login and password will all stay the same. Only the name and colours have changed. That’s it!
